The Future is Creative – whether we like it, or not

WARNING – I’m going to ruffle some feathers with this post!!

Lack of funding, lack of deep direction, lack of positive experience, lack of value in society. These are all the obstacles the art sector are facing in our education at its roots. Only today I’ve been told there is a record low uptake of art A-level for next year at our local school. This is not looking good for the future of our society.

Everywhere we look, we see creativity. It’s in the cars we drive, the houses we live in, our entertainment, our clothes, our mindfulness, our positive mental health, our development. It’s part of us, so why do we as a society give it so little importance. IT’S TIME TO CHANGE!!!!

Our art studio is on the front line of seeing young people in the education system coming through our doors despondent about school, especially art in school and I as a mother am also seeing my usually happy and creative child feeling low about some aspects of her art education at school. It’s a subject she has grown up loving and if it wasn’t for Little Leonardos and the fact that we are a creative family, I’m pretty sure she would not be choosing an artistic path for her future. It is rapidly becoming a negative experience in school and this is no good. We are failing our future.

WE NEED TO SHOUT THIS FROM THE ROOFTOPS AS LOUD AS WE CAN – ART IS IMPORTANT, CREATIVES ARE ESSENTIAL TO OUR SOCIETY, THEY ARE INTELLIGENT HUMANS WHO DON’T ALWAYS FIT THE SYSTEM. SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE!

If you have a 12 – 16 year old who loves art, but is starting to lose enthusaism, send them to us. We are so passionate about this subject, it seeps from our pores. We have made it our mission to make art a positive experience for all to ensure the future of the creative sector in this country is ground breaking and the envy of the world. Lets not let them down.

Leonardos Art Club is run by our very talented Megan Miles, former head of art at Uplands, who has a wealth of experience and talent. The club runs on Saturday mornings, term time, 10am – 12pm. To book a trial, contact us via email kjfineartist@yahoo.com.
