Bespoke oil paintings to treasure
Whether a pet, person, favourite place or still life, Katharine Jennings can turn her paintbrush to any subject matter with her unique style. She knows how much a person, pet or place can mean to you and works tirelessly to create an artwork you can admire for a long time. A painting is not just an impression of the flesh or fur tones, it must capture the character and uniqueness of the subject and stir fond memories for its owner. For details of prices and the booking procedure, please read on.
How to start the process:
After your initial contact with Katharine, a no obligation appointment will be booked at a mutually convenient time, either by phone, zoom or face to face in her studio.
At the consultation meeting Katharine will discuss with you the subject matter you wish to be portrayed, size, cost and time frame. Any deadlines must be mentioned at this meeting to ensure both parties can meet these requirements. Reference material can also be discussed and this would usually involve photographs of your choosing or an appointment being made for a sitting or photo session. Terms and conditions will be handed to you at this point also and, if you are happy with the outcome, Katharine will ask for a deposit to be paid in order to secure your space. The deposit is £50 per painting.
Your commission will be started at a time that has been agreed between the parties at the consultation, provided sufficient reference material has been provided to Katharine to ensure your painting is of the highest quality. Sufficient time will need to be allowed for the drying process, as Oil paints dry over a number of weeks and will need to be varnished as well.
Katharine does not provide ‘work in progress’ photos during the painting process. This is due to her process not always being very clear to the commissioner. See more on her process below.
When the artwork is complete, Katharine will be in touch and either send a photo of the finished work via email to you or invite you in to view your commission. If you require any alterations to take place, this must be stipulated at this point as no further alterations will be granted on any future views. If you are happy with the artwork, Katharine will give the work the appropriate amount of drying time before varnishing.
If you wish your commission to be framed, we can arrange this for you. We will refer the work to J and K Gallery and Framers in Crowborough and take photos of various options of frames. These will be sent to you via email, with a price list. We will await your decision and upon receipt of this, will ask the framer to proceed.
We will forward our invoice to you for the remaining balance of the agreed price and full payment will be required before the painting is handed over.
Photographs
Any photographs provided must be of good clear quality to ensure your commission will be satisfactory. When an artist relies on a photograph, the painting will only be as good as the photo allows for. Therefore, any blurry photos or where the subject is so far away from the camera, the detail is lost, these will not be satisfactory and may be refused.
You must also ensure you have the copyright to any photos provided. Should you provide photograph taken by a professional photographer or by the media, you must also produce evidence in writing that express permission has been granted for Katharine to use the photo for the purposes of this commission.
